PROFESSIONAL COACH CURRICULUM

FC Tulsa’s coaching staff have developed age appropriate 10 week curriculums to provide volunteer coaches with the tools they need to run fun and effective practices each week. Each session is focused on a certain developmental skill, and accompanied by take home materials to grow excitement for the game of soccer.

Example Coaching Session:

Focus: Ball skills, Dribbling with both feet, stopping the ball, turns

  • Warm-up: Small sided games (2v2, 3v3) (10 minutes)
  •  Activity 1: Ball mastery turning with the ball (10 minutes)
  •  Activity 2: Dribbling obstacle course (10 minutes)

Dribbling Relay Race in channels
Description

Set Up: First set up cones for players to dribble around. An ideal distance is approximately 10m in total, however, this may vary depending on the age of the players. Once the grid is set up, separate players into even teams. If some teams have an extra player the teams with fewer players will have to assign someone to perform two legs of the relay, this way all teams perform the same number of relay legs. Each relay team needs one ball.

How It Works: On the coaches signal players dribble as fast as they can around the final cone, turn around, and dribble back towards their line. Once they’ve made it all the way, they give the ball to the next player in line and then sit down to signify that they have completed their relay leg. The first team to complete all of their relay legs and have all their players sitting down wins.

1v1 Straight up to goal

Description

Set Up: Create a playing area with a large goal at one end. Defenders line up at a post with balls to play out to the attackers. The attackers start at the end opposite the large goal. When playing with a large goal you’ll want to have a goal keeper as well. If you don’t have a goal keeper you can use a mini goal or cones instead.

How It Works: The first player in the defending line plays a ball out to the first attacker and then runs out to close the attacker’s space. The objective for the attacker is to get past the defender and score. If the defender wins the ball there are several variations you can choose. Either the play is dead or you can allow them to try to attack and dribble past the line in the opposite direction. When the ball goes out of play the players clear the field and go to the back of the lines for the next players to start. Depending on your objective as a coach you can have players switch lines to practice both offense and defense or have them stay in the same roles.
